About Black History Makers
Each February, the Black Legacy Advancement Coalition hosts the Black History Makers experience. This virtual experience is a time to reflect, learn, and listen as we celebrate leaders in the Black community that are making an impact in our communities. Historically, this virtual Black History Month experience has drawn thousands of viewers. This year’s event will be sponsored by Community Financial Credit Union.
BLAC’s Previous Black History Makers awardees have included:
- Bakari Sellers, Author, Attorney and CNN News Commentator
- Chris Singleton, Author, Speaker and Emanuel 9 family survivor
- Judy Bowman, Award-winning, renowned artist
- Carole Anne-Marie Gist, the first Black Miss USA
- Orlando Bailey, Emmy Award Winning reporter and journalist
- Jason Gibson, Entrepreneur and Business Mogul
- Hill Harper, Author, Philanthropist and Award winning actor of ABC’s Medical Drama “The Good Doctor”
- Gail Perry Mason, Business leader and Philanthropist
For the first time ever, this year’s experience presents its Black History Maker Grant Competition where rising entrepreneurs and creatives will have an opportunity to share the progress that they are making by contributing to Black History today. The winner of the competition will receive an unrestricted $2,500.00 grant to put towards their business.
Applicants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Be a United States Citizen.
- Identify as Black American.
- Be a descendant of trans-Atlantic slave trade diaspora from Africa to the Americas.
- Must have an operative business.
- Must have a business account or a way to receive business funds legally.
- Must submit a completed Black History Makers application.
- Be subscribed to BLAC’s mailing list.
- Follow @blac_colaition on Instagram where the winners and future opportunities will be announced.
The grant application will open at www.theblac.co on Monday, February 7 at midnight and close on Monday, February 24 at 12:00 AM midnight. The winner will be announced during the black History Makers Live event on Instagram.
